Coir Log L: 3m x D: 200mm- Coir Logs provide erosion and wave control structures in riparian zones, and sediment capture in drainage lines and swails. Coir Log is a roll of coir, organic coconut fibre enclosed in a robust coir mesh. Coir Logs provide protection while vegetation establishes and takes over the long-term stabilisation. Sediment control is highly critical for preventing excess degraded silt from entering and effecting rivers and streams.

Description

Coir Logs are cylindrical or rectangular, 100% Biodegradable compressed, Coir Fibre wrapped in Coir or Jute netting. Coir (Coconut Husk) is extracted from farmed Coconuts that are produced in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

The material used in the manufacturing of Coir Logs goes through a refined process known as Retting. During this process, the material is submerged in water for several months. Water constantly flows through the Coir material and this removes natural impurities that maybe present in the fibres. To produce Coir Logs, the material is then extracted, rolled, and compressed into shape. The Coir netting that encloses the Coir fibre matrix is re-spun producing a robust mesh.

Coir Logs are often used on sites that lack Vegetation and/or have unstable soils. They are also an integral Soft engineering tool in construction and development.

Coir Logs are a particularly good implement to use when intending to slow down and divert water preventing sediment movement.

Specifications

Dimensions – Length: 3 metres x Diameter: 300mm x Weight: 20 kg
Material – Coir Fibres enclosed in robust Coir Mesh
Life Expectancy – Up to 3 years depending on environmental conditions.

Features & Benefits

Coir logs are easily deployed and installed in remote, regional, and urban areas. Each log can be easily manoeuvred with one or two individuals depending on size.

They are key in protecting bare earth after fire and Flood events as they help prevent sediment and ash movement while vegetation establishes.

The shape and design of Coir Logs emulate a fallen log in a natural environment.

As a biodegradable product, the Coir Logs are designed to blend into the environment and leave no undesirable residue.

Flexibility is a key component of the product, conforming to the natural soil graders and slopes.

The life expectancy of a Coir Log is approximately 3 years dependent on the environment.

Application

There are many uses for Coir Logs both in the environment and in construction sites.

Common applications include:

  • Slowing of water allowing sediment to drop
  • Block or Slow water and Sediment movement
  • Retain Sediment particles
  • Divert and change course of Water
  • Contain or hold Water or Soil
  • Protect Soil and keep in situ
  • Slope protection and stabilisation

Best Use

Coir logs are a particularly good implement to use when intending to slow down and divert water. They act as buffer for soils to protect from erosion forces in both Freshwater and Coastal applications, preventing further scouring and sedimentation movement.

They are key in protecting bare earth after fire and Flood events as they help prevent sediment and ash movement while vegetation establishes.

Used regularly in construction zones as a more durable alternative to hay bales and silt socks where exposed soil needs to be contained.
